Moving to the big city!

July 27, 2007 11:50 pm

Road trip usually are fun and exciting. Ours was definitely that. We made it through the other side of St. Louis and the trailer started swaying on us. Sometimes enough to make it into all 3 lanes. Yeah a little scary. So we thought we could deal with it. Next day, no. We stopped east of Omaha in a town called Council Bluffs where a Hitch (as in car) shop was. They installed an Equalizer hitch that also acted as a Sway bar. They could not believe we drove the trailer that far. Turns out we had the trailer loaded a lot ever that we ever thought we would. When back on the road, it was like driving a Cadillac.

We had smooth sailing until we came through the Snoqualmie Pass in Central Washington. The trailer was swaying on us again some and we pull off in a town called North Bend that was about 35 miles out from our destination to get gas and check things out. Turns out the lugs had broke off on one wheel. We lost a wheel and tire. Thank goodness it was a tandem torsion axle trailer (which means there are 2 axles and that if something like what happen to us, what is left of where the wheel was will not drag the ground.) We were very fortunate that we were not left out on the highway somewhere. We were close enough to leave the trailer and come back to fix it the next day with my kind father-in-law loaning us the tools to fix it.

So we finally made it here. We are staying with Kristin’s family while she looks for a job. We do not really know yet what area we would like to live in. I have started my job and really like all the people I work with and like my job.

We want to tell all our family and friends back in the Midwest that we love then and miss them. You are welcome to come visit anytime you can!

Rushmore / Yellowstone

11:37 pm

As much as I thought even on the morning driving up to Rushmore I thought it wouldn’t be all that to see, I was wow’d. I have always heard that it is one of those things that you see, get your picture in front of and 10 minutes later you are back on the road. It is very neat and a lot pretty than I thought. Then again you couldn’t have asked for a nicer day.

Where do I even began to describe what I saw in Yellowstone? We were maybe a half mile in the park and there were cars stop, so of course when in Rome do like the Romans. We pulled over and got out to see what the fuss was. There was a Bald Eagle across the river. It was very majestic looking. We saw so many animals all day long in the park as we drove the lower circle. We did not even see half the park. Right before dusk/dark we made our way to Yellowstone Waterfall and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. I never thought a Grand Canyon could be soo beautiful. It was breath taking to say the least. I will go back and so will my dad but I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with him.
